Rome Museums
Without question, Rome's greatest museums are the ancient ruins which still line the streets, standing alongside shopping centers, ATM machines and fast food restaurants. Few other cities allow you to walk through history, as you can wander through the Coliseum, the Pantheon, and the Roman Forum. Many of the city's churches are museums in their own right, and the Vatican Museums are unrivaled anywhere in the world for their collections of art and antiquities. There are a few other treasure houses in the city that should also be on your itinerary.
The Galleria Borghese, the National Gallery at Palazzo Corsini, and the Galleria Doria Pamphilj are just three of the more important museums. Each of these is housed in an historic setting that should be explored just as the works of art that are housed there. The Keats and Shelley House is interesting museum of English literature, as well a memorial to two of the 19th century's finest writers.
