Restaurants Trastevere Rome
Alberto Ciarla - Piazza San Cosimato 40
Considered the best restaurant in Trastavere, Ciarla has one a variety of awards and is popular with locals as well as tourists. Much of the menu is comprised of traditional meat and pasta dishes; however you will also find a number of original creations to satisfy your adventurous cravings. Be sure to check out the outstanding seafood choices. If you are stuck for a suggestion, we recommend the sea bass filet with almonds.
Asinocotto - Via dei Vascellari, 48
Most tourists have yet to find Asinocotto, hidden, as it is, in the narrow streets of Trastevere. But it is surely a hidden treasure. Early in the day the staff scours the streets of Rome looking for the finest and freshest ingredients from which they will make the evening's menu. Generally there are 4 or 5 choices for each course. Some are traditional, like salmon and steak. Some are more creative, a Parmesan basket with spinach and quail or pigeon. This is one of the few places in the city where you will find a selection of teas.
Antico Arco - Piazzale Aurelio 7
If you are looking for a trendy place with hip clientele, stylish decor and outstanding contemporary cuisine, then Antico Arco was made to order. Menu selections will vary somewhat with the season, but include such delicacies as onion flan with cheese sauce, rack of lamb, rabbit salad with sliced parmesan and honey sauce and spaghetti served with pecorino romano cheese. Indulge yourself for dessert. They serve a chocolate souffle with a melted chocolate center that attracts chocoholics from all over the city. Reservatons are essential.
Ripa 12 - Via San Francesco a Ripa 12,
Ripa 12 is the antithesis of tourist restaurants. Here the emphasis is on food. This neighborhood fish restaurant sees a great deal of repeat business from its local clientele. Fresh fish of the day is prepared as you request it, or you can try the marinated sea bass or spaghetti with lobster. No fancy sauces to disguise the flavor of less than fresh fish is to be found here. The emphasis is on simple and flavorful.
Sabatini - Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere 13
This is another neighborhood spot with a great location and outstanding food. The menu is traditional Italian: spaghetti with seafood, fresh fish and shellfish, especially grilled scampi or pollo con peperoni, chicken with red and green peppers. There is a generous selection of wines to choose from. Reservations are essential - particularly in the summertime.
