Restaurants San Lorenzo
Arancia Blu - Via dei Latini 55-65
If you are looking for a place to enjoy Italian cuisine but prefer something a bit lighter and healthier, head toward the university area of San Lorenzo to experience the outstanding vegetarian cuisine of Arancia Blu. The wait staff is friendly and will help you make the perfect selection. Try the lemon-ricotta ravioli or lasagna with red onions, mushrooms, zucchini, and ginger. Finish the meal with one of their outstanding coffee selections, or perhaps a chocolate tasting - 14 wafers offering a variety of tastes and textures. Arancia Blu is open for dinner only.
Da Franco ar Vicoletto - Via dei Falisci 1/b
Seafood is notoriously expensive in Rome, but you can find bargains if you look. Da Franco ar Vicoletto is one of the few places in the city that is truly affordable. The menu is prix-fixe and includes an appetizer, pasta and grilled, roasted and fried fish. There is a family atmosphere here, making it a great place get-togethers with larger groups of people.
Uno e Bino - Via degli Equi 58
At first glance Uno e Bino seems like a typical bottiglieria (winebar). You can order a bottle or two from their impressive 16-page wine list, but don't assume that cheese is the only thing available to accompany it. The brother and sister who run the place have brought a creative style to the foods of their childhood, and the results are outstanding. Their specialties include octopus salad with asparagus and carrots, and spaghetti with swordfish, tomatoes, and capers. You will have a difficult time getting a table most nights, so reservations are highly recommended.
Il Dito e la Luna - Via dei Sabelli 49-51
This small, friendly bistro offers contemporary Sicilian cuisine. There are a number of eggplant dishes - all excellent; as is the cannoli, pasta con le sarde (sardines) and tonnarelli (square-cut spaghetti).
