Keats Shelley House Rome
The Casa Rosa - as it is officially known - might very well be just another 18th-century home along a row of so many others at the base of the Spanish Steps were it not for the fact that John Keats lived and died here. When Keats moved into the home in 1821 it was in the heart of the bohemian quarter of Rome, favored by artists and occupied by a fair number of Englishmen.
Keats had come to the city to attempt to fight off the last attacks of consumption. Ultimately, he succumbed in this very house. It has since been purchased and opened as a museum, library and educational center. Many of Keats' works are on display here, as are those of Percy Shelley and a number of other authors of the period. Keats' apartment has been completely restored and a small collection of memorabilia of writer's of the period is on display.
